LIFE SWSS at the CCWI conference
Some of the work being developed in LIFE SWSS was presented at the CCWI 2016 conference in Amsterdam, 7-9 November 2016.
•Laura Monteiro (IST / CERIS) presented orally the paper “Assessment of the energy recovery potential in water networks”;
•Aisha Mamade (IST / CERIS) presented orally the paper “Assessment of energy consumption and carbon footprint in urban water systems: two case studies from Portugal”;
•Pedro Cardoso (ISQ) presented a poster of the paper “Assessment of pumps performance in water supply systems”.
The focus of the conference was the modeling and control of water systems, with particular attention to the translation and application of scientific work in practice.
The CCWI conference aims to facilitate high-level discussions and hands-on demonstrations of computing and control applications across a wide range of the water industry. Topics such as waste water treatment and drinking water, hydraulics in potable water and sewage networks, asset management, water quality in general, rainwater were presented. There were discussions on the uncertainties offered by climate change, the various governance models, etc., and their impact on technical solutions. The transition from linear solutions to more circular and sustainable solutions is a relatively new field with challenging problems for new computing and control strategies.
